Behind the Seams: A Week in the Atelier
Monday begins with pattern review, checking each piece against the sample from the previous fitting. Small adjustments, a curve eased here, a dart shortened there, are marked directly onto the paper pattern before anything is cut in fabric.
By midweek the cutting tables are full. Fabric is laid, checked against grain and print placement, then cut in small batches so a single machinist can follow a garment from first stitch to final press. It is slower than cutting everything at once, but it keeps a single pair of eyes on every seam.
The week ends with a fitting. Garments are worn, walked in, sat in, and adjusted again. Nothing leaves the atelier until it has been checked in motion, not just on a hanger.
